Announcing the World’s Best Surface Mount Package

Dexter Research Center announces the availability of “the flat pack”. This surface mount package allows for a lower profile than standard TO-5 packaging, the new device is a single-channel silicon-based thermopile in a LCC package for surface mount assembly. The company believes it to be the world’s best surface mount thermopile.

The flat pack enables thermopile technology and performance to be available in a surface mount package. Benefits include a small active area of 0.61mm x 0.61mm, and a time constant of 18ms with nitrogen encapsulation gas. The device deliver a very low Temperature Coefficient of Responsivity of minus 0.04%/°C. This detector has a very short thermal shock response to ambient temperature change.

Silicon Thermopile Surface Mount Package

Available with Dexter Research’s industry-leading choice of options, the ST60R LCC version offers a poly-silicon resistor to be used as a PTC thermistor. Also available, an internal 30kW 5% NTC chip thermistor provides ambient package temperature measurement.

Housing the ST60 and the company’s new ST120 elements, the device allows for ultra low profile packaging yet offers an easily adjusted field of view. The Flat Pack is ideal for today’s automated pick-and-place manufacturing processes.
